NYC is one of our favorite cities in the world. It’s where we had our first babymoon and where we made the decision to go full time with our business back in 2017. It is a city that never sleeps but also a city that you never get tired of. So when Joe and Mel reached out about their New York City Catholic wedding and bringing together two families across cultures we were so excited to tell this story.
Joe is from a family with a rich Irish/Italian heritage going back generations in the Howard Beach neighborhood in Queens. His late grandfather helped build the church, Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and started the Villa Russo after the Korean War which served as the gorgeous reception hall.
Mel and her family were from Brazil, and the wedding was the first time she had seen many of them since before Covid. We had the wonderful opportunity to go with them to see the New York City skyline for the first time in-between the wedding Mass and the reception at Jane’s Carousel in Brooklyn Bridge Park. The contagious smile on Mel’s face was glowing when we showed up at 9am while the women were getting hair and makeup done, and that smile was still going just as strong when we said our goodbyes after midnight. Joe and Mel’s day was radiating with love. From start to finish, they were surrounded by mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, encapsulated by warmth and tenderness and joy. And we were whole-heartedly welcomed into it. From family to food to fun, this is not a wedding we will soon forget.
